Q1) What is the “Hobbeez Lending Library”?

A1) Hobbeez Lending Library is a network of lending libraries, with a focus on educational toys, hobby kits, books and CDs. Members, who are typically between ages 3 and 15, are given one or more cards. Against each card, a member can borrow a toy, a hobby kit, a book or a CD, typically for a week.

There are two websites that have been an inspiration for this activity: www.bgamers.com and www.niagarahobby.com

 

Q2) What are the benefits to a member?

A2) Members have affordable access to a vast library network of toys, books and CDs –by far the largest in India, and soon to be the largest in the world. In addition, members can connect with a mentor network, which can provide extraordinary educational value. Children enrolled in this program can become part of a global learning community and share the joys of learning.

 

Q3) Where is the library located?

A3) We propose to have a network of about 30 to 100 libraries in the state. The plan is to have at least 20 in the city of Bangalore. Based on the member demographics, toys will be stocked in each node of the library network.

 

Q4) Can arrangements be made to deliver the toys to the homes?

A4) Yes, this can be done based on availability and mutually acceptable terms and conditions.

 

Q5) What is the basis for the educational services?

A5) The educational services are based on “Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory”.

 

Q6) What is the cost of becoming a member?

A6) Membership costs Rs 300 per month per card, payable for a year. In addition, there is a refundable deposit of Rs 2,000 per card, to provide for damages/losses. Although a child pays Rs 3,600 per year, the child can have access to over Rs 14,400 worth of materials.

 

Q7) How can my child become a member?

A7) Meet the “Neighbourhood Librarian”, fill out the “Membership Form” and get registered.

Although a child pays Rs 3,600 per year, the child can have access to over Rs 14,400 worth of materials. 70% (Rs 2,520) is retained by the NF. We expect each NF to sell a minimum of 100 cards.

 

Q7) How can I become a NF?

A7) Meet the “State Master Franchisee”, fill out the “Application Form” and get registered. The one-time cost of being an NF is Rs 30,000. In addition, you have to pay a refundable deposit of Rs 30,000. You get Rs 15,000 worth of toys, besides marketing materials and training.
